characteristics

All green with lighter yellowish green under parts and olive-yellow head
Beak: orange
Eye: ring around the eye narrow and grayish • iris red
Legs: gray-black

Male’s head slightly brighter.

Behaviour: Flocks of over 100 gather outside of breeding season • Vocalization: Shrill screech.

reproduction/life span

Little known from the wild • Breed perhaps Sept. to Oct • In captivity: incubation 23 days • 3 eggs.

diet

Wild: Visits flowering trees and shrubs
Zoo: 30% nectar, 30% fruit & vegetables (kale, grapes, apples, cantaloupe etc…), 30% bird of paradise pellets, 10% plants flowers and other novelty items.

habitat/range

Habitat: Primary and secondary forest and savanna woodland • Cultivated and settled areas on the more arid islands • Found in lowlands to 7550 ft.
Range: Timor and surrounding islands, east Indonesia in Lesser Sundra islands.
