Ralph
Ralph and his mate Alice were born in 1993 at zoos located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and were transferred to the Phoenix Zoo in 1996, where they produced three offspring. The pair arrived at the Oregon Zoo on April 12, 2006, weighing in at 22 and 19 pounds respectively. Shortly after arriving at Oregon Zoo, then-14-year-old Ralph and Alice settled in well enough to produce Rio, who was born Sept. 14, 2006. Ralph, Alice and Rio belong to the southern Brazilian species of ocelot, Leopardus pardalis mitis, which inhabits the tropical and subtropical forests of southern Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. They live in the zoo's ocelot exhibit. Learn more about ocelots. |
