PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program
The Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program is working with indigenous
people to protect some 15,000 acres of wildlife habitat on the Huon
Peninsula of Papua New Guinea. Once formally recognized, this protected
area will be managed by a community-based non-governmental organization.
The program supports the community with conservation education and
conducts research on the Matchie's tree kangaroo, a species
exhibited at the Oregon Zoo.
