Through the joint efforts of Oregon Zoo and the Oregon Zoo Foundation, the Future for Wildlife program greatly enhances
the zoo’s conservation efforts.


Future for Wildlife Grants Program

The Oregon Zoo Foundation’s Future for Wildlife Conservation Fund awards small grants ($2,000 average award) semi-annually in support of field conservation programs in the Pacific Northwest and abroad.

Funded projects must directly contribute to the survival of populations of free-living animal species and the ecosystems in which they are found.


What to know before applying:

  • The grant is not for/does not include/allow overhead costs.
  • Funds are only distributed to organizations, not individuals.
  • Proposals are limited to FOUR pages only.
  • Proposals that do not follow guidelines listed below will not be considered.

Dates to know

Proposals must be received by 30 June and 31 December, respectively.
Applications are reviewed in July and January of each calendar year.

Award notifications will be made in August and February. Successful grantees will be required to submit photos and a report at the end of the grant cycle.


Main points to include in your proposal

TITLE PAGE with the following information only: project title, applicant’s name, institutional affiliation, address, job title, degree being sought or highest degree obtained, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, total budget, grant amount requested and desired starting and ending dates for use of funds requested. Title page should also include, in 100 words or less, an ABSTRACT of the proposed project stating the purpose, methods and significance of the project to conservation.

INTRODUCTION explaining the rationale for the project, specific goals, objectives and hypotheses to be tested.

METHODS and PLAN OF ACTION describing data collection methods, sample size, detailed time table, including the project’s completing date and dissemination plan.

PROCESS for evaluating the project’s outcome and plans for implementation of the results into conservation action policy.

BUDGET for the total project is required, including justification for all Future for Wildlife funds requested. Please include the name and mailing address of the non-profit organization sponsoring the proposed project.


Other materials required for your proposal

In addition to the four pages of material described above, the proposal must also include:

  • CURRICULUM VITAE of applicant; two pages maximum
  • LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION from at least two
    individuals familiar with the applicant and the proposal
