Zoo School


Turtle and students

Make the most out of your visit to the zoo. Join education staff in one of the zoo's classrooms for hands on-activities and animal presentations. Then take your new knowledge out on the zoo grounds for your own self-guided safari.

Presentations must be booked 2 weeks in advance.

Available: Tuesday - Friday at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30.

Duration: 30-60 minutes (age appropriate)

Group Size: 30 students max.
  Limit of one classroom per presentation. Please do not combine classrooms.
 
Cost: $50 per program Sept - March
  $60 per program April - June

What is a Bird
Stories, live animals and activities bring to life the characteristics of birds. Learn how feathers, eggs and beaks make birds unique. Includes two birds (at least one touchable) and touchable biofacts.

Animal Homes
All animals need a place to live. Learn what birds and other animals look for in a perfect home. Includes two animals (at least one touchable) and touchable biofacts.

 

For grades K-2nd

Beautiful Bugs
Insects come in many sizes and shapes. They live in many different places but all have things in common. Songs, puppets and hands-on encounters will show what makes an insect an insect.

 

For grades 2nd-3rd

Africa's Smallest Hunters (NEW!!!)
Predators come in all sizes. Meet some of Africa's smallest predators and learn how they find their food and avoid being eaten themselves.

Critter Coverings
Feathers for flying, scales for slithering and fur for fluffing. Discover how all these different body coverings help these animals survive. Includes a bird, reptile and mammal (at least one animal will be touchable) and touchable biofacts.

Home Sweet Habitat
Compare your home with animal homes. What do you have in common? What is different? With help from some animals, discover what all living things need to survive. Includes a bird, reptile and mammal (at least one animal will be touchable) and touchable biofacts.

 

For grades 4th-5th

Predator/Prey Africa Style (NEW!!!)
Predators have many adaptations to help them catch their prey. But prey animals also have many adaptations for getting away. Meet some of Africa's smallest predators, and learn what they do to find enough to eat.

Adaptations
Learn how feet, teeth, fur and feathers help animals find enough food. Discover special adaptations of predators and prey that help them eat and avoid being eaten by others. Includes a raptor, reptile and mammal (at least one animal will be touchable) and touchable biofacts.

Northwest Animals
Learn how to look for signs of animals at your school, in your yard and in the forest. Discover how tracks, scat and other animal signs can tell a story. Includes 3-4 northwest animals (at least one touchable) and touchable biofacts.
