Red Ape Reserve House-warming Party

June 18-20
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The much-anticipated Red Ape Reserve, the zoo's new expansive indoor-outdoor naturalistic habitat featuring Sumatran orangutans along with white-cheeked gibbons, is nearing completion. We need visitors to put a few final touches on the exhibit to make it a safe and welcoming home for the animals.

June 18–20, Red Ape Reserve will be covered with a visual barrier for visitors to decorate with handprints. This is one of the final steps before animal introduction begins in the exhibit. These are highly intelligent animals, and the visual barrier around the exhibit will give them some privacy as they get used to each other and their new exhibit.

The exhibit is really amazing, and provides new opportunities for our orangutans and gibbons to experience a natural habitat of foliage, water features and weather. Sway poles, vines and trees enable the apes to swing through their arboreal habitat.

Come to Oregon Zoo and make your mark on this new exhibit. Activities are free with zoo admission.
