Throughout the week, watch bears receive enrichment items to mentally challenge and engage them, and learn as keepers share their insights about black bears, polar bears, sun bears and the grizzly during scheduled feedings.

Discover more from information booths at black bear and polar bear exhibits. Solve a melting-ice jigsaw puzzle at the polar bear exhibit, explore a papier mache polar bear den and discover how blubber works to keep bears warm even in ice water.

Bear Fair Schedule(10 am - 4pm):

Special Activities for Saturday, May 10

 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Bear Activity Stations, Repair-A-Bear clinic, and craft table are open.

 10:30 a.m.

Bugs for the sun bears! These small bear, who usually eat real bugs, get the extra enrichment of big papîer-maché bugs full of treats. Keepers discuss challenges sun bears face in the wild, including habitat destruction, poaching and the inhumane conditions in the bear bile farming industry.

ZooTeen Kaitlyn Casimo discusses what she learned on her trip to Churchill, Canada, and describes the effects of global warming on polar bear habitat. Casimo earned the distinction of being chosen as an “Arctic Ambassador,” which enabled her to travel to the Arctic to study polar bears in the wild and witness first-hand the challenges they face.

12:30 p.m.

Playtime for Polar bears. Conrad, Tasul and Yugyan participate in enrichment activities with giant papier-mâché toys. Meanwhile, keepers share their insights about these impressive animals and the pressure their wild counterparts face as a result of global climate change.

1p.m.

Campsite gone wrong! Black bears Gerry, Pete and Homer attack a poorly-set up campsite to showcase why campers need to practice safety while out in the wild, and keepers discuss ways people can minimize negative encounters with bears.
