September, 2003. One of the design challenges with the Eagle Canyon site is creating a way to get all visitors safely and comfortably from one side of the canyon site to the other. The elevation change between the underwater salmon viewing and tree canopy eagle viewing is significant. The solution was to build a covered bridge between pathways on both sides of the canyon. The Oregon Zoo Exhibits Department researched historical Oregon covered bridges and accurately modeled the Eagle Canyon bridge after them. The bridge spans 40 feet, and offers breathtaking views into the forested canyon beyond. Below are Eagle Canyon construction site photos from the last month.
