Africa Plaza
As you approach the exhibit, a large, open-air plaza serves as a gathering space where the sights and sounds of Africa promise a greater understanding of the impressive continent. Suddenly you're immersed in a world most people will never see.
In the center of the plaza, a baobab tree stretches to the sky, providing a welcoming and protective canopy. Underfoot, a large and colorful mosaic in the shape of the host continent greets you. Sounds of Africa come from every direction. Traditional songs, stories and drumming can be heard faintly in the distance, while the louder sounds of Africa's bustling urban life are much more prominent.
Walking along, you leave the busy sounds of the city behind, and encounter the huts of a small traditional African village. You're drawn inside a small hut. A traditional drummer appears on a large television screen. Nearby, African drums summon you to play; they're irresistible. The African drummer persuades you to join him. Soon you experience the joy and power of the traditional rhythms and drumming techniques that are such a vital part of African cultures.
