Caracal
After admiring the lions, largest of all African cats, you move on to a U-shaped exhibit that houses one of the continent's smallest felines: a caracal. You watch as the tufted-eared cat prowls over a landscape of flat fields dotted with heated rocks, small trees, shrubs and grassy knolls. It heads toward its heated den near the viewing window and you follow, getting very close to this elusive hunter.
Suddenly, you notice acrylic tunnels running through the caracal's habitat. You see a dwarf mongoose dart through the tunnel; the swift caracal pursues, but cannot penetrate the acrylic. A maze of mongoose tunnels snakes through the habitat, enabling both species to share the space, while offering interesting encounters. The mongoose is seen popping to the surface (protected by its acrylic bubble). The caracal would love a tasty mongoose meal, but it is not to be.
