Conservation champions

The Oregon Zoo is looking for kids who are making a difference and helping to save the planet. We have a new recognition award called "Conservation Champions."

Who can be a conservation champion?

Any individual or group from kindergarten through high school is eligible.

How can I become a conservation champion?

Let us know what you have been doing to help protect the environment. Some ideas might be

  • Raising funds to help an endangered species.
  • Protecting trees in a local park.
  • Encouraging community leaders to stop pollution.
  • Getting your school cafeteria to use paper intead of Styrofoam.
  • Forming an "eco-club".

Water conservation
  • #1 Spread the word.
  • #2 Join a conservation group.
  • #3 Recycle or dispose of all trash properly.
  • #4 Use environmentally-friendly household products.
  • #5 Be considerate of animals and habitats.
  • #6 Learn more about the ocean and conservation by reading, watching films or visiting aquariums and zoos.
  • #7 Don't flush nondisposable products down the toilet.
  • #8 Conserve water by taking shorter showers, washing your car on the lawn and watering your lawn at dusk or dawn.
  • #9 Get involved by taking part in clean-up activities.
  • #10 Support the creation and maintenance of marine parks and reserves.
