Enrichment for sun bears

Food - Sun bears are omnivorous and eat almost anything, including birds, termites, plant shoots, honey, berries, and small mammals.

Families - Usually found in pairs. A mother gives birth to 2 blind cubs that grow fast.

Location - S.E Asian rainforest- Burma, Indonesia, and surrounding countries.

Enrichment at the Oregon Zoo

* Hammock made of fire hose for sleep and play
* Ball to play in and hide food
* Boomer ball (see common enrichment)
* Cardboard ginger bread houses
* Frozen popsicle treats
* Paper Mache bats
* Ice treats
* "Tree" structure to climb and play on
* Small log with holes drilled in it to hide foods such as honey and ketchup and hung on a string
* Bones given twice a week
* Small food items such as raisins, seeds, and chopped fruit scattered around the exhibit.
* Sunflower seeds, dried chilies, and mangos given occasionally.
