Access & Services

Stamina and Endurance
The zoo is built in a wooded canyon. Pathways throughout the zoo conform to ADA accessibility standards. However, visitors should consider their ability and the ability of everyone in their party to travel long distances and inclines.

Wheelchair and Stroller Rentals
Visitors may bring their own wheelchair or stroller. Wheelchairs and strollers are also available at the rental shop adjacent to the entry plaza Gift Shop.

Wheelchairs, scooters and strollers are available on a first-come, first-served basis - no reservations are accepted. Scooters are available to visitors 18 years or older. Other motorized vehicles must be approved by Security.

Zoomer Shuttle
The zoo operates a motorized shuttle on most days to assist visitors with mobility problems. Zoomers are equipped to carry unoccupied wheelchairs.

The Zoomer route is from the entry plaza to the Asian Elephant exhibit and back. Zoomer stops are marked with a red service symbol. Check at the Zoomer stop to see if the shuttles are in operation during your visit.

Washington Park and Zoo Train
The zoo train is wheelchair accessible by lift. Maximum lift weight is 400 lbs.

Hearing Disabilities
A TDD phone is available in the admissions office at the main zoo entrance.
