The Oregon Zoo is one of only a few U.S. zoos to have Visayan warty pigs, which are native to the Visayan Islands in the Philippines. The Island Pigs exhibit also includes Babirusa pigs. They live only on the island of Sulawesi and neighboring islands in Indonesia. Nearly hairless, these pigs take care of their skin. They wallow in mud and bathe frequently. The exhibit includes a small pool for the pigs to swim in as well as grassy areas, bamboo and other plants that evoke their tropical native habitats.
