Beavers are a keystone species, which means they help many other species survive. By building dams across streams, beavers create wetlands that many frogs, salamanders, fish and birds depend on. Beaver ponds also keep carbon out of the atmosphere, which helps counteract rising temperatures!
Activity: Build a beaver dam
Using blankets and pillows and cushions, build a beaver lodge and dam i.e. 'fort' in where you live.
You can also collect sticks and brush to create your own small beaver dam. Add mud for insulation just like a beaver does and test it to see if it can block water.
Activity: Stick and mud crafts
Beavers craft amazing dams with just sticks and mud, what could you craft with sticks or mud? Can you make a picture using only twigs? You can try using sticks or mud as your craft medium, paint on the sticks or add food coloring to the mud to make mud paint. Let us know how you used mud and sticks for art.
