This training has been filled.
Climate change and habitat loss may make the pikas’ life more difficult in the future. Getting involved with Cascades Pika Watch is a great way for citizen scientists to help biologists study and monitor pika populations in our region.
Join us for a crash course in learning to identify pika, pika habitat and their distinctive calls. We will train you on everything you need to know to become a Pika Watch Citizen Scientist.
After the training, you can sign up to do pika observations in the Columbia River Gorge. The sites we monitor are along public trails and are easily accessible. If you sign up for the training, we request that you volunteer to monitor at least one pika site during the summer of 2019. You will need a pair of binoculars and a GPS device or smartphone with GPS to participate.
Location: Oregon Zoo Education Center
Cost: Free (pre-registration required)
Ages: 10+ for training (but once you are trained you are welcome to take your kids with you to do your surveys)
