The zoo provides a fun and safe setting for this Halloween tradition, where costumed trick-or-treaters learn about wildlife in a fun scavenger hunt throughout the zoo.
In keeping with the zoo's mission, Howloween aims to be educational as well as fun. Scavenger hunts and activities are themed to teach kids about animals around the world, and their habitats and adaptations. Goodie bags filled with candy and prizes will be given out for completed hunts at the zoo's exit.
As part of a commitment to earth-conscious operations, the Oregon Zoo participates in Green Halloween – a nationwide initiative to make Halloween healthier and more eco-friendly. Green Halloween contributors include Larabar, Cascadian Farms, Stretch Island Fruit, and Unreal candy. There will also be a small amount of Halloween candy in each bag, but we are careful to source products that do not contain palm oil. In addition, all of the prize bags are fully compostable! We selected compostable cellophane bags for the treats, so when you are done, you can dispose of the bags with your kitchen scraps or yard debris.
Best suited for children 3-12.
