Sunset at the Zoo, presented by Banfield Pet Hospital, is a series of evening "late hours" in the park.
Each Sunset event features animals that are active at dusk, fun activities for families, pettable animals and live entertainment. Banfield Pet Hospital veterinarians and vet techs will be on hand, presiding over a "Pet Patch-Up" station for stuffed animals, and kids can show off their best dog and cat impressions in Banfield's "Howl and Meow" contest.
Enhanced food offerings, as well as local beer and wine service, make this the perfect place for dinner al fresco while enjoying the best of Portland on a summer evening.
Sunset at the Zoo takes place every other Wednesday during July and August.
July 8, featuring live music by St. James Gate
St. James Gate is a Celtic inspired quartet offering dynamic vocals, 3-part harmonies, scorching hot fiddle, funky upright acoustic/electric bass, tight acoustic rhythm guitar, and drums, St. James's Gate specializes in a wide range of Irish Music, including beautiful Irish ballads and waltzes, faster-than-lightning jigs and reels, traditional pub songs and contemporary Irish music.
July 22, featuring live music by The Earnest Lovers
The Earnest Lovers are vintage honky tonk heartbreak serenaders Pete Krebs (Hazel, The Stolen Sweets, Portland Playboys) and Leslie Beia (Copper and Coal, The Lowburners). An alliance forged from their musical and devoted love of the golden era of country duets, the Lovers have set out to capture that classic sound and to invigorate it with new life in form of original compositions.
August 5, featuring live music by Rio Con Brio
Rio Con Brio captivates audiences around the country with their intimate performance of the beautiful and esoteric Brazilian repertoire known as choro, the early 20th Century street music of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Influenced by equal parts Afro-Brazilian rhythms and the contemporary cafe music of Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, choro is both exotic and familiar, evoking in turn the carnival of Rio and the cafes of Paris.
August 19, featuring live music by The Student Loan String Band
Together for nine years, The Student Loan is a progressive-acoustic newgrass project based out of Portland, Oregon. This innovative quartet’s diverse style transcends genre, fusing elements of jazz, blues, rock, old-timey parlour music and jam with traditional bluegrass instrumentation.
It turns out our cats and dogs at home aren’t that different from the big cats and wild dogs at the Oregon Zoo—all animals, whether big or small, domesticated or wild, need regular preventive care to make sure they are happy and healthy. At Banfield Pet Hospital, the largest veterinary practice in the world, we are as dedicated to our mission of creating a better world for pets as the Oregon Zoo is to the mission of creating a better future for wildlife. We were founded just up the street in Portland in 1955 and today we have 3,200 veterinarians caring for pets at more than 900 hospitals in neighborhoods across the United States and Puerto Rico.
