When annual rains flood the Amazon basin, they transform it into a watery world, the varzea. Look below the water line where turtles and caiman hunt and forage. In the shallows, an enormous green anaconda lies in wait for its next meal; shy ocelots perch on rock ledges. Toucans, red-handed tamarin and howler monkeys inhabit the treetops.
