Join us in celebrating all things elephants!
When Packy was born in 1962, he made international headlines and set the Oregon Zoo on the path to becoming the world leader in elephant welfare and research that it is today! Elephantastic, held each year on or near his birthday, is a celebration of Packy's legacy and his family. Guests can see the exciting updates on our new Elephant Lands and take part in some elephantastic activities.
Get a little wet and discover how elephants use their trunks in water, play with some "goldilocks sand" found in the new exhibit, and even practice building your own elephant habitat with an interactive felt board. Oregon Zoo is commited to helping elephants all over the world, and visitors will be able to learn more about what they can do to help the 96 Elephants campaign.
Cake to celebrate the first phase of Elephant Lands, the Encounter Habitat, will be provided by Lamb's Wilsonville Market.
Free with zoo admission.
Due to construction scheduling, Packy is in the east sand yard near what will soon be Forest Hall and is only visible from hardhat areas.
Packy won't miss out on his annual birthday cake. Keepers plan to present the six-ton senior citizen with a 40-pound whole-wheat concoction — frosted and topped with carrots, bananas, apples and sweet potatoes — on Monday, April 14, when the celebrated pachyderm turns 52.
