Celebrate the last weekend of summer with family fun, live entertainment, Oregon beverage samples, late hours and more.
The summer is winding down so the Oregon Zoo has decided to throw a festival.
Families can enjoy Wildlife Live! meet and greets (at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.), an elephant pool party at 3:30 p.m., popular local food carts, live bands, lawn games and kids craft activities. And even the Unipiper will be roaming around all afternoon!
Check out live music from the Junebugs (sets at 2 p.m. and 3:20 p.m.) and Afrobeat/juju band Jujuba (sets at 4:40 p.m. and 6 p.m.) and performances from AWOL acrobatic dancers (at 3 p.m., 4:20 p.m. and 5:20 p.m.).
Guests who are 21+ can purchase a souvenir glass with four drink tickets that can be used for four 7-ounce beer samples (or two 7-ounce wine samples) for $15. Pint glasses alone will be $5 and additional drink tickets are $3 each.
There will be 16 beverage vendors stationed around the concert lawn and single drink tickets will be available as well. Partners include Deschutes Brewery, Base Camp Brewing Company, Modern Times Beer, Schilling Hard Cider, Rogue, Backwoods Brewing Company, Crux Fermentation Project, Migration Brewing, Hopworks, Full Sail Brewing Co., Kyla Kombucha, 2 Towns Cider, Coopers Hall, pFriem, Reverend Nat's Hard Cider and Cascade Lakes.
The event is free with zoo admission and the festivities will happen between 2 and 7 p.m. (grounds will be open till 8 p.m.). Train rides cost extra.
Parking costs $2/hour or $8/day and lots tend to fill up quickly, so the zoo encourages visitors to take public transport: Take MAX Light Rail to the Washington Park stop or a TriMet bus. Call 503-238-RIDE (7433) or visit trimet.org for fare and route information. Visitors who ride MAX light rail or a TriMet bus to the zoo will receive $1.50 off admission with proof of ridership.
