Oregon Zoo’s summer happy hour series kicks off in May with a party for primates.
Each event will feature a different animal theme: May 9 will focus on primates, June 13 will celebrate predators such as cheetahs and painted dogs, July 11 will center on bird encounters, August 8 will honor the elephants and September 5 will focus on slippery characters such as otters, beavers and seals. For more information about the series, visit oregonzoo.org/happy.
At the May 9 event, attendees will learn from the keepers who care for orangutans and chimpanzees about how the animals and their habitats are under threat, and find out what simple actions humans can take to help them.
Happy hour tickets will include zoo admission, a drink ticket, lawn games, photo ops, keeper talks, crafty activities and plenty of themed food and drink options. Koi Fusion, Verde Cocina and Hakuna Murata food carts will be on site, along with other food options, beer, wine, signature snacks and cocktails for the event.
Guests 21+ can enjoy a zoo experience with dates, friends or family at an adults-only time. Happy hour at the zoo isn’t just fun, it helps raise awareness and support for the zoo’s mission of creating a better future for wildlife through its animal welfare, education, and conservation programs.
General admission tickets are $24.95 per person, $19.95 for Oregon Zoo members, and include zoo admission, activities, keeper talks and one drink ticket. Guests can ride the train and carousel for an additional charge.
There are three VIP ticket options: the Chimp Experience ($150), the Orangutan Experience ($150) and the Red Ape Experience ($300), all of which include early entry, parking, hosted food, beer and wine until 6 p.m., drink ticket for after 6 p.m. and swag. VIPs will be accompanied by folks from the Oregon Zoo Foundation. The Red Ape Experience involves climbing in an area that is not wheelchair accessible.
The Oregon Zoo encourages visitors to take public transport to the zoo, which is located five minutes from downtown Portland, and is accessible by MAX light rail line. Call TriMet Customer Service, 503-238-RIDE (7433), or visit trimet.org for fare and route information.
