Zoo welcomes all to last Second Tuesday until September

Visitors who take MAX or bus to zoo can get discount with proof of ridership

Oregon Zoo guests can enjoy their visit while spending less May 8. The zoo's popular admission-discount program offers a reduced admission price of $5 on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May. Tomorrow's Second Tuesday will be the last one until Sept. 11.

Last year — to help spread attendance out over the course of the entire year while still remaining accessible to lower-income visitors — the zoo launched a new discount program, Zoo For All. Based on the Portland-region Arts For All program, Zoo For All provides $5 admission every day, all year long, for qualifying individuals and families. Learn more about Zoo For All.

While tomorrow will be the last Second Tuesday until fall, that doesn't mean an end to summer discounts, says Ivan Ratcliff, the zoo's guest services manager.

"During the summer, third Tuesdays are the way to go," Ratcliff said. "Our Twilight Tuesday series takes place on the third Tuesday of the month from June through August. Admission is just $5 per person after 4 p.m., and free for zoo members."

Twilight Tuesdays take place June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21 at the zoo with, fun activities for families, live entertainment and a focus on animals that are active at dusk.

And no matter which day you're coming to the zoo, Ratcliff says, a good way to get there is to take MAX. Visitors who ride MAX light rail or a TriMet bus to the zoo will receive an additional $1.50 off their already discounted Second Tuesday admission with proof of ridership.

Those traveling to the zoo this week should be aware that Providence Park MAX improvements are taking place through May 11. MAX Blue and Red lines are disrupted and frequency is reduced on the west side; MAX shuttle buses are running between Goose Hollow and Library\Galleria.
