June 19, 2018 - 12:35pm

Three summer evenings with a festival flair and deep admission discount

The Oregon Zoo is offering visitors a little something extra this summer: Twilight Tuesdays, featuring late hours in the park at a deep discount.

Twilight Tuesdays take place the third Tuesday of the month from June through August (June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21). Each event features animals that are active at dusk, fun activities for families, pettable animals and live entertainment.

The series debut on June 19 offers salsa and Afro-Cuban music from Son Cubano Quintet, featuring members of Melao De Cuba Salsa Orchestra, the July event will include Farnell Newton and the Othership Connection (funk and soul with a twist) and the August event will feature Pete Krebs and His Portland Playboys (hillbilly jazz and western swing).

Eventgoers can get up close and personal with animals during meet-and-greets at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Crafts, activities and opportunities to learn about wildlife and conservation are available throughout the evening.

Also on hand: food carts from CS FisherytastebudPok PokVerde CocinaEleni’s KitchenKoi FusionRuby JewelPip’sZedsBen & Jerry’s and more — plus the ever-popular elephant ears and a selection of local beer and wine for adults.

Zoo admission is just $5 per person after 4 p.m. (free for zoo members). Festivities begin at 5 p.m., and gates stay open until 8 p.m. Visitors may remain on zoo grounds until 9 p.m.

Parking lots tend to fill up quickly for these events, and the zoo is encouraging visitors to take MAX rather than driving. Visitors who ride MAX light rail or a TriMet bus to the zoo will receive an additional $1.50 off their already discounted Twilight Tuesday admission with proof of ridership.
