Event offers live music, food carts, local beverages, late hours and family fun
It's tough to say goodbye to a Portland summer, but the Oregon Zoo is doing it in true Rose City style — with live music, food carts, local brew and even the Unipiper. The zoo's first End of Summer Party, free with regular admission, takes place Saturday, Sept. 15, from 2 to 7 p.m.
Families can enjoy animal meet-and-greets at 3 and 5 p.m., and watch Asian elephants make a splash at their 3:30 p.m. pool party. Lawn games, craft activities for kids and opportunities to learn about wildlife are available throughout the afternoon.
At 2 and 3:20 p.m., the Junebugs bring their high-energy folk to the stage, and Afrobeat big band Jujuba treats visitors to a funky dance party with sets at 4:40 and 6 p.m. In between, guests can marvel to the A-WOL acrobatic dancers at 3, 4:20 and 5:20 p.m.
And did we mention ... the Unipiper?
Also on hand: food carts from Verde Cocina, CS Fishery, Gourmet on the Go; ice cream treats from Ruby Jewel, Zeds and Ben & Jerry's; plus the ever-popular elephant ears and a selection of local beer and wine for adults.
Festivities begin at 2 p.m., and gates stay open until 7 p.m. Visitors may remain on zoo grounds until 8. For more information, go to oregonzoo.org/events/end-summer-party.
